Tungsten Carbide Grit/Powder

 
Tungsten carbide grits, or crushed tungsten carbide grits are recognized as one of the best hardfacing materials. Once welded onto the steel body of machinery parts, they provide ultimate wear protection. This is perfect for heavy-duty parts working under high wear and impact conditions, such as cutting blades, road milling teeth, and bucket teeth.

At MCT, we supply outperformed and consistent tungsten carbide grits for your hardfacing projects. Our crushed grits are carefully screened to meet a variety of sizing requirements. Popular mesh sizes include 12×16, 12×20, 14×20, and 16×30. If you need other sizes, just let us know.

We also produce premium tungsten carbide powder. This hardfacing welding material is often used in thermal spraying processes (such as HVOF) to create extremely hard protective coatings.

 

Hardfacing Process

 
Hardfacing requires a few key steps:
  • Surface Preparation: We thoroughly clean the base metal to remove all rust, oil, and dirt.
  • Preheating: Base metals like high carbon or alloy steel must be preheated. This prevents thermal shock and welding cracks.
  • Applying Consumables: Using MCT's tungsten carbide grits or powder, we apply the overlay via welding or thermal spraying. We often add multiple layers for extreme wear areas.
  • Controlled Cooling: The cooling speed must be strictly controlled to prevent the metal from cracking.
After a proper hardfacing process, your equipment parts will last 3 to 8 times longer

MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding is a popular hardfacing technology, employing an electric arc as the heat source. Thanks to its high efficiency and easy operation, MIG is widely used across many industries.
Compared to laser cladding, MIG produces much higher heat input. If the heat is too high, tungsten carbide particles can dissolve too much into the molten pool. The welded surface becomes very easy to break. To prevent this, we must precisely control the energy input based on the welding wire and the base metal.
